Felstead Art is pleased to present Lilia Orlova-

Holmes: Panta Rhei, an exhibition bringing together a

selected group of paintings that explore the continual

transformation of nature. Taking its title from Heraclitus’

enduring aphorism that ‘everything flows’, the

exhibition considers landscape as a living continuum of

growth, colour, light, and seasonal change.

Orlova-Holmes presents nature as an ever-changing

environment, experienced through sensation as much

as observation. Gardens, ponds, flowering plants, and

trees emerge from layered surfaces where forms

dissolve and reappear. Familiar imagery remains

recognisable while existing between representation

and abstraction, reflecting the fluidity of the natural

world.

Rather than describing nature with documentary

precision, each painting emerges through a dialogue

between observation, gesture, and material. Forms

are continually adjusted, colours accumulate through

successive layers, and traces of earlier decisions remain

visible within the painted surface. Orlova-Holmes

adopts nature’s processes, allowing her work to evolve

through transformation in much the same way that

rivers continue to move, seasons unfold into one

another, and every landscape is shaped by an endless

cycle of growth, decay, and renewal.

In Panta Rhei, this continual state of becoming defines

Orlova-Holmes’ approach to painting, where the

process of making becomes inseparable from the

rhythms of the natural world itself. Her paintings

embrace a unfolding process, expressing a painterly

language that mirrors nature’s rhythms and reminds

us that both landscape and painting remain acts of

perpetual transformation that never entirely settle.

Lilia Orlova-Holmes: Panta Rhei is organised by Felstead Art

and curated by Michael Wormack.
